74.79 LAKH APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED BY FARMERS THROUGH CSCs UNDER PMFBY YOJANA


During the PMFBY Crop Season of 2019-20 (Season-Starting from July, 2019), in total 74.79 lakh applications (crops) for a total premium of Rs 741.016 crore have been submitted by the Farmers through the CSCs under PMFBY Yojana.
Any NON LOANEE Farmer who wants to cover his Fasal/Crop can enroll under this scheme by contributing some amount of Premium. This is a subsidized scheme. Hence farmer has to pay only his share of premium, rest premium will be paid by the Central & State Government to the insurance companies directly. This scheme is regulated by the IRDAI and all major General Insurance Companies have assigned different State and District to insure Crops/Fasal of these farmers as per instructions of the Government of India.
Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has been launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi with aims to support sustainable production in agriculture sector by way of  : providing financial support to the farmers who are suffering crop loss/damage arising out of unforeseen events; stabilizing the income of farmers to ensure their continuance in farming; encouraging farmers to adopt innovative and modern agricultural practices; and ensuring flow of credit to the agriculture sector, which will contribute to the food security, crop diversification and enhancing growth and competitiveness of agriculture sector besides protecting farmers from production risks.
The service is available on CSC portal since last crop season. The CSCs, while implementing this Scheme nation-wide, shall adhere to the following –
  • All CSCs will create awareness about this scheme among all Non-Loanee farmers of its areas.

  • CSCs cannot charge any additional/extra amount from the farmers, except the amount of premium as displayed on Crop Portal.
  • CSCs are allowed to accept applications of ONLY NON LOANEE farmers.
  • Loanee Farmers shall approach/contact to their banks for Insurance under this scheme.
